Rashida Kapadia - Image Consultant from Mumbai, India

Q1. How did your career journey start? Or Who/What inspired you to
start this business/ entrepreneurship?

Actually I became an Image Consultant quite by chance. I am a qualified fashion designer and I successfully managed my own boutique for seven years. At the same time, I was freelancing as a make up and product trainer for one Multinational company. I got a call from a start up company who wanted me on board  as a grooming and styling expert. So I started conducting workshops in multinational companies on grooming and business dressing. I believe in constantly upgrading my skills and so while reading up on something, I came across a term I had never heard of -"Image Consultant". I was impressed and very interested in pursuing Image consultancy as my career and hence, I did a course from the US, got certified as an Image Consultant and began my journey as an Image Consultant.

Q2. Kindly share some information about your Business, products and services here.

I like to call myself a life and style guru. As a style guru, I assist people to find their individual style and create a fabulous yet comfortable wardrobe so that they can look great and project a powerful image. As a life guru, I educate and empower people in the finer nuances of social etiquette and manners, behavioural skills ,building relationships and effective communication. This complete enhancement program leads to a strong, positive self image and increased self confidence to help people become successful in their professional as well as personal lives.

Q3. What kind of challenges did you face while starting/doing business?

When I launched my brand Orchid Complete Makeovers in 2007 , very few people knew what an Image Consultant was. So I had to introduce myself as a personality development trainer. It was difficult to convince people about the importance of looking good and dressing professionally. People were not ready to invest in themselves.

Q4. Do share with our readers about your discovery period when you were facing difficulties in your business?

I discovered while dealing with people that people were dealing with a lot of emotional and  relationship  issues which were roadblocks to achieving success .I also realised that I had to be flexible in my approach and persistent if I wanted to achieve my goals.

Q5. Share with our readers about your experiment period after the discovery period?

I experimented with mentoring and coaching and introduced new programs like  dating etiquette for prospective brides and grooms, creating a pocket friendly wardrobe, travel etiquette that were the need of the hour.

Q6. What are your future plans? Or now what is your vision for next five years?

After having travelled extensively, I have realised that we Indians lack in basic etiquette because of our "chalta hai" attitude, we still do not believe that clothing has an impact on our own mindset and behaviour and there is a need to change that. My vision is to #groomindia and I'm mobilising all my resources towards that end. My dream is to start my image makeover academy with branches all over India and I will be launching it soon.

Q7. How would you advice/suggest new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in business?

I would advise them to evolve with the changing times, upgrade their skills, adopt new methods implement the latest strategies and build credibility to sustain themselves in a very competitive market.
