Colonel (Retd) Aalok Sood - International master Trainer from India

Q1. How did your career journey start? Or Who/What inspired you to start this business/ entrepreneurship?

I left my assignments of the Indian Army after 27 long years. I feel that it was a calling for me to venture in to something different and what made me leave my career and choose the present one was only a  means for me to reach here.

The journey has been tough and had its own ups and downs. I strongly feel that life needs to be taken as it comes to us.

Q2. Kindly share some information about your Business, products and services here.

I am currently an International master Trainer where-in I train the trainers to become an International standard trainers. I have seven signature programmes

     1. Influencing and communicative Leadership
     2. Communication Made Easy
     3. Managing the Emotions
     4. Deeper and Convincing Relationships
     5. The Choice of Right Subjects and Careers
     6. Scientific Parenting
     7. Choosing and maintaining the Right Life Partner

Q3. What kind of challenges did you face while starting/doing business?

Challenges are part of any new venture that one takes and need to be accepted by us. Some of the challenges faced have been

- Non-Acceptance that the human beings need counselling, Coaching, Guidance, or Directing. The human beings have an attitude of 'Knowing it All' and feel that no one can teach us anything.

- Corporate World feels that spending money on their employees is not worth it. They actually preach that the corporate does not need human beings. they are okay with having machines rather than human beings.

- Anything new takes time to settle down and patience was a big peril for me to understand, absorb, and apply

Q4. Do share with our readers about your discovery period when you were facing difficulties in your business?

Friends, my discovery period has been for the last two years. The discoveries encountered were as under with a slight detail on each one of them:

The Clients types. It was a practical learning that no two beings were the same. They thought, acted, and reacted differently. it made my spectrum of understanding people wider and deeper.

Self Understanding. This was one area which kept taking me deeper and deeper in to self journey. This taught me about my areas of improvement in gathering Awareness, instilling self Acceptance, Adopting, Adapting, and Applying to self what I intended to preach to others.

Q5. Share with our readers about your experiment period after the discovery period?

The experiment period was inherent to the discovery period and in this period I was with so many subjects of mine everyday. in all my interactions with the audience, I was sure of two things, viz,. One that I was giving something to the audience, and second which was more firmer, was that I definitely learnt my lessons from each of such interactions and I applied my learning in to the next level of interaction and that helped me getting closer to my audiences.

Q6. What are your future plans? Or now what is your vision for next five years?

My future plan is to diversify my subjects as much and yet keep them within the target area of the reach of Human beings. I should be able to handle any given query or question by any Human being. For this, i am picking up all possible modalities and going deeper and deeper in to its learning and imbibing them, myself.

My target for the next five years is to reach out to all human beings and touch base with them without categorizing them in to creed, religion, or sex. I wish to convert the slowly already become 'Machines' (Human Beings) back in to their true 'Human Being Forms.'

Q7. How would you advice/suggest new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in business?

I have a few Ps for them: Passion for their work; Persuasion; and Patience.

Amey Hegde - Corporate Trainer from Goa, India

Q1. How did your career journey start? Or Who/What inspired you to start this business/ entrepreneurship?

I wanted to raise my child in Goa among relatives and friends in an environment conducive to wholesome family values, I planned that I would return to Goa on the birth of my first child. As there was no suitable opportunity for me in Goa, I chose to create one as an entrepreneur.

I have a great passion for learning new things and training people so I decided to enter the entrepreneurial behavioral training field.

Over a period of five years, I got personally trained and coached by various masters various topics on the applied behavioral science of Meta Mind Management, Edward de Bono’s Six Thinking Hats & Lateral Thinking, Facilitation Skills, and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).

Q2. Kindly share some information about your Business, products and services here.

I run a signature training program on Happiness & positivity based on principles of positive psychology called “Creating Positivity Within™”.  For corporate houses, I conduct trainings on various topics like Train The Trainer, Motivation, Team Building, Communication Skills, Leadership, Creative Thinking, Goal Setting & Time Management.  I also conduct psychometric assessments and executive coaching for managers.

Q3. What kind of challenges did you face while starting/doing business?

I did not have contacts in organizations when I returned back to Goa as a trainer after my stint in the Bangalore VLSI industry so it was very difficult to get training assignments. To make matters worse, most of my relatives in Goa thought that leaving a well paying job in Wipro to return to Goa as a trainer was a very stupid decision. Many people used to keep asking me how was work when I had no assignments at all. Others offered advise that I should go back to Bangalore, only my wife and a couple of close friends supported and encouraged me to continue.

Q4. Do share with our readers about your discovery period when you were facing difficulties in your business?

I used social media like Facebook and Linkedin to spread awareness about me and my offerings. I created a facebook group of inspirational quotes called “Inspire to Reach Higher” currently having over 4500 members and a group called Trainings in Goa currently having over 3500 members. I built my network slowly and steadily by meeting various people and attending various networking events. I conducted several free / low priced open-to-public talks that were organized by prestigious institutions including ISTD, GCCI, NIPM  and the International Centre, Goa (ICG).

I also created free ebooks featuring inspirational quotes by great thinkers like Zig Ziglar and Swami Vivekananda, topics like Konkani Proverbs and Customer Service and based on timeless classics like Thirukkural and the Chanakya Neeti. All of these ebooks are available for free download from my website http://www.ameyhegde.in. I also created a book of inspirational quotes, “Inspire to Reach Higher”,  available for sale on amazon.com, flipkart.com, Apple iTunes store, Kobo, Barnes & Noble and Google play.

In 2013, I founded “Goa HR Forum” that currently has over 450 HR professionals from over 200 organizations from Goa.

Q5. Share with our readers about your experiment period after the discovery period?

I am still in my experiment period! I know from my own experience that if one feels he has reached a certain level, one becomes arrogant and stops learning.

Q6. What are your future plans? Or now what is your vision for next five years?

In my regular interaction with students across our state, I find that self-confidence and motivation levels are low among many Goan youth. Currently I’m working on a short non-commercial film based on the inspiring real life story of a physically disabled entrepreneur from South Goa, Mr. Agostinho Fernandes to inspire youth to follow their passion and explore entrepreneurship as a career option. It is being directed by a young talented filmmaker, Mr. Ramprasad Adpaikar whose earlier short film “Sin”has won international recognition. I plan to release the short film in early 2015 and would like it to reach out to at least one crore people.  My vision for next five years is to create a platform to boost employability and entrepreneurial skills of Goan youth. I would also like to create a non-profit website to connect interested contributors to worthy social causes.

Q7. How would you advice/suggest new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in business?

1. Choose a business that you are passionate about.
2. If you want to be the best, learn from the best and keep learning.
3. Honesty, hard work and humility are essential for success even in today’s world.
4. Always strive to increase your network.
5. Be a go-giver: the more you give, the more you will get.

Jatin Bharmani - Founder of Manpower Consultancy Opteemize

Q1. How did your career journey start? Or Who/What inspired you to start this business/ entrepreneurship?

After working for 10 years with Corporates, I realized, enough has been learnt, in terms of functioning of Corporate and start on my own in a small way. I guess it was also innate to start business, as my father too owns and runs a shop since 60s and is still running. Also, which employee, on earth, would not want freedom - to spend their day at own wish, from unnecessary brickbats from reporting seniors and the list goes on. The same applies to me as a human being.

Q2. Kindly share some information about your Business, products and services here.

I run a Manpower Consultancy firm since 2010 by the name of Opteemize catering only to
MVAS / Digital / IT companies, across levels and functions pan India.

Recently, I have also started with Brain Mapping, which is scientifically researched &
proven, over years, and has been affiliated by American Psychological Association. It helps an individual to know about his Personality profile, innate strengths and weaknesses, left or right brain dominance and suitable career options. By capturing tips of the fingerprints in a biometric machine it helps to identify the ability of brain lobes and innate potentials of an individual. Age is not a limiting factor and can be done even of a one month old baby. It’s a 30 page exhaustive report and an individual is counselled for 45 mins. by a trained counselor.

It is amazing to know self or your child in such a simple and easy manner.

Q3. What kind of challenges did you face while starting/doing business?

The basic challenge, which is true for major start ups, is finance (among various other challenges) and I was too not immune to it. I always say, ‘that employees get their salary on 1st and employers have to pay the salaries on 1st’. It is the only factor which stops any employee to start on his own. What would happen in terms of profits or losses later is the next stage, but even to simply start on our own remains a dream, as any employee is caught in the vicious cycle of salaries on 1st and repaying EMIs.

When I started I was lucky enough to get business relatively easily, due to my network and healthy relationships with people in the Corporate world. A friend of mine, Barin Mukherjee, once explained me that one who has failed in business is the one who has stopped doing business. Keeping this in mind though I came across struggles I kept myself motivated and kept my business up and running which helped me sail through.

Q4. Do share with our readers about your discovery period when you were facing difficulties in your business?

It has been surveyed that 90% of the businesses shut down in its first year of operations. As an entrepreneur, you are required to wear multiple hats to face and solve difficulties head on.

Sluggish times taught me to keep patience, increased my convincing abilities and forced me to think beyond to bring down operational expenses and increase revenues at minimal operational overheads, with minimum and right set of team members.

Q5. Share with our readers about your experiment period after the discovery period?

With right team in place, I now delegate and manage work in a macro manner and do not get in to day to day operational activities. I now follow work from home policy for my team which has helped me bring down operational overheads to minimal. I give them freedom to perform and they are doing wonders! In the quest to do something more, and break from routine, I wrote a pocketbook titled “humanshastrra” which has been published this year (2014).

Q6. What are your future plans? Or now what is your vision for next five years?

While my current businesses would run and expand steadily, I have always had a quest to do something which I haven’t done earlier. I would get into Training people in functional HR, Psychometrics. While I cannot divulge any details here, I plan to come up with a platform for people, for their benefits, in the near future, which probably is not here in India.

Q7. How would you advice/suggest new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in business?

While managing finance remains the basic foundation, it is not the only factor which would bring success. The other factors are –
  1. Learn to work in a team.
  2. Listen to your team members
  3. Be empathetic towards others
  4. There are no shortcuts to success
  5. Think twice before deciding on anything especially the extremes which would involve you, your business and others related to your business.
  6. Be true to yourself and what you undertake
  7. Never cheat anybody; it would give you only temporary relief. In the long run, you would suffer.
  8. Remain humble and grounded. (Anyways, while facing difficult times, you would acquire these qualities.....:))
  9. Stick to your goals (though it may change to a certain degree over a period of time) and do not give up. Keep patience and work towards it.
  10. Advise or help others in any ways you can, selflessly, as you would want others to help you.
  11. Celebrate your competitor’s success too whole heartedly.
  12. Compare yourself with your current and your past and not with others around.

Rajaani R Agarrwal - Founder and the Principal Interior Designer

Q1. How did your career journey start? Or Who/What inspired you to start this business/
entrepreneurship?

Interestingly, I landed in Mumbai in 1984  to do Textile designing but since admissions were full, my brother got me forms of Interior Designing. Very reluctantly I gave my Aptitude test and got selected so accidentally got into Interior designing.

At that time I saw it as just a decorating course and never knew that it was much more than that. It was pure designing with tremendous scope and gradually got interested in the subject and saw it as a very creative and challenging field of opportunities.

Luckily I met few professors who encouraged and embedded in me that we should not be doing this course just for getting good marriage proposals but to pursue it seriously as a promising career. I had made up my mind and decided to never give up or look back regretfully and kept growing as life moved on..

Q2. Kindly share some information about your Business, products and services here.
Mine is a Proprietor firm with the name Rajaani R Agarrwal’ where I am the Founder and the Principal Interior Designer and this year I have completed 25 years of my journey in this field.
This Mumbai based Firm was established in 1989. It is a professional Designing firm specializing in Commercial, Residential, Hospitality and Retail Interiors.

We get involved in the project right from the time of visualizing the concept, working on the minute details and taking care of the aesthetics and the functionality combined till the last nail is hammered home. Utilizing each inch of the space available effectively and yet making it look spacious and minimistic is our specialty.

We are also Vastu and Green Interior experts and plan and design keeping vastu basics and Green elements in mind.

With our expertise and experience we have grown over the years and now we undertake projects not only in Mumbai but also in cities like Pune, Aurangabad, Bangalore, Jodhpur, Lucknow etc. Our Team is prepared to take on any Design project with the same enthusiasm and High standards that are the hallmark of our group.

Q3. What kind of challenges did you face while starting/doing business?

As a newcomer I faced lot of challenges. Clients would take advantage and not pay after taking away the designs. Being a woman and handling the Male clients and uneducated Labours was most challenging which gradually I learnt to deal with effectively, maintaining my dignity gracefully.

Q4. Do share with our readers about your discovery period when you were facing difficulties in your business?

I learnt very early that I cannot allow anyone to take me for granted so had to be authoritative, very professional and transparent in my dealings and made my terms and conditions very clear before I took up any project.

Difficulties started when I got married and got a son to look after but successfully learnt to balance my Professional responsibilities along with my Family responsibilities.

Q5. Share with our readers about your experiment period after the discovery period?

As a Designer it was my duty to take and understand thoroughly the wish or requirement list from my clients and make proposals where all their requirements fitted in along with good aesthetic features and always I have been successful in finalising the designs in the first attempt.

I then started exploring how I could design differently from the existing trends in the market and left a personal and unusual touch in my designs which was appreciated and accepted and gave lot of satisfaction besides the Financial security.

I also took up designing small spaces with maximum utilization as a promising challenge

Giving the best with minimum budget was another challenge which I soon mastered.

Soon drawing boards changed to Computers so I had to keep changing and adapting myself with the new technologies coming in with speed.

Q6. What are your future plans? Or now what is your vision for next five years?

I aspire to get more of  Corporate clients and get into more of Commercial and Retail Interiors than Residential.

I plan to update my website and get myself well versed with the Social Media trends which at
present is my weak point and get more exposure for my firm apart from getting projects from just word of mouth and references.

Q7. How would you advice/suggest new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in business?

Short and sweet-Dedication and Discipline are the two mantras to start and sustain yourself in any field.

Enjoy and love what you are doing and never compromise with your values.

There is no easy way and short cut to success, you have to be persistant and steadily move towards your goal with 100% focus and the main challenge is to balance the Business and the Family creatively as both are equally important in life to remain unstressed and happy.

Jane Sha - Serial Entrepreneur from Mumbai, India

Q1. How did your career journey start? Or Who/What inspired you to start this business/ entrepreneurship?

To be honest, I never felt I am on my journey to build any career. From day one that I started working, only mantra for my life has been to do what I love to do. yes, there are challenges and obstacles when anyone follows heart. However over a period of time one realizes all these obstacles have been a stepping stone for the next step. One of the such stepping stone helped me choose what I want to do that I enjoy doing and brings in cash. One of the obstacle on family front was not to do job. However being entrepreneur with flexibility of time was welcome. So I had to look for option to work where I feel happy working and at the same time be free when family needs. Now when I look back , I feel this is the best thing that happened to me. Pursuing CA and doing any full time 9 to 5 job, I would have missed on son's childhood. This was the driving force in my entrepreneurship journey.I became serial entrepreneur.I started with 7 businesses. Out of those, 4 failed to take off . 3 are running successfully and growing.

Q2. Kindly share some information about your Business, products and services here.

Something I observed, all my 7 business were related to education and finance. Clearly finance and education is my passion. Q3. What kind of challenges did you face while starting/doing business?

I am an introvert person and creating team has been the most challenging task.I learnt it hard way as trusting people was my second nature. However universe has been graceful to connect me with wonderful people and without them, the growth would not have possible.

Q4. Do share with our readers about your discovery period when you were facing difficulties in your business?

The biggest learning in my learning phase has been to delegate and move on. Whenever I practiced this, I experienced growth at personal as well as business front. As an entrepreneur its critical to have an eye to look for the right person, train them and move on. Not everything will work out my way and even other way is perfect.

Q5. Share with our readers about your experiment period after the discovery period?

This approach allowed me to create more team members.

Q6. What are your future plans? Or now what is your vision for next five years?

The most fulfilling experience for me and my team has been when we recieve email or phone call of our participants and they share their success stories or how they turned their life using our practices. Q1. How did your career journey start? Or Who/What inspired you to start this business/ entrepreneurship?

Being the eldest son in a marwadi family, having established business of Ball Bearings, own office and residence, it was written on the wall that I am expected to join my father’s business. I observed that Illiterate and uneducated traders and brokers earned more than me and my education was not used there, so I wanted to do something different. I putted up a SSI unit at Hyderabad. Now, this was other extreme. I could not manage it and had to wind up.

I tried my hands at share market as sub-broker, ad agency, Jobs at big and few smaller companies, Share Recovery Agent, but the job satisfaction was missing.

At Lions Club, my public speaking ability was appreciated. In a SWOT analysis this was emphasized and I started thinking - how to use this ability or strength. One of the option was Training and after some hiccups I landed here.

Q2. Kindly share some information about your Business, products and services here.

Once I got any assignment, it was treated at par irrespective of the fee. The effort

  • Be ready to accept challenges & focus on what needs to be done rather than why it needs to be done.
  • In difficult times, do a product research and work on it, as it can be a source of inspiration & future plan to move ahead.
  • Don’t get involved in only one product instead work on different product / areas of business.
  • Create a quality product & then start your marketing first with people whom you know better & ask for their feedback.
  • Improvise on your product every 3 months..

Amazing David, Illusionist from India

Q1. How did your career journey start? Or Who/What inspired you to start this business/ entrepreneurship?

From my later school days, the time when everyone my age was planning to take up Computer programming or Chartered Accountancy, I was fascinated by the thought of turning my hobby in to a full time profession. After completing my Standard XII examinations, I took up a job as a customer service executive for a British telephone company since I needed to financially support my family. I would say I did pretty well but my heart and dreams were fixed on becoming a fulltime showman. I was lucky enough to have managers who were kind enough to grant me leave and the occasional half-day whenever a performance came up. Still, it was difficult to cope up with both careers at the same time.

I could feel my performance quality dropping. After 6 months on the job, it seemed the
end client and the call centre started having some disagreements and overnight, the client shifted the process over to another call centre. A few of the newer employees including myself were asked to leave the process. This turned out to be the Catalyst to start my full time performing career and within a month, eighteen year old Amazing David had landed a contract performing in schools for one of India’s leading Newspapers.

Q2. Kindly share some information about your Business, products and services here.

I am an Illusionist. I perform for corporate and private events all over the world. My show is interactive and crosses the threshold between the audience and performer and blurs the line between what we understand and what is unreal. Magic is an intellectually stimulating art form and my performances not only entertain but also leave the audiences thinking. I also design special illusion presentations for clients to launch products or concepts and also bring out corporate messages. I am also working on a new show termed ‘Psychillusions’ that combines human psychology with magic and illusions.

Q3. What kind of challenges did you face while starting/doing business?

People are programmed to believe that you cannot be a professional entertainer in India. There is “no-scope”. In fact words of discouragement still flow in till this day. As a country, India is yet to understand the value of this form of entertainment. A magician is often thought of as a man in a glittery ill fitting coat and hat pulling out paper flowers from a tin can at a children birthday party. Or people think it is a form of the dark arts, Black magic to be precise.

The biggest challenge was to show people the true potential of a good Illusionist... And i think i am doing that... one show at a time.

Q4. Do share with our readers about your discovery period when you were facing difficulties in your business?

They say in “ Show Business “ , Business is the bigger word ! Balancing Show and business has always been the difficult part. I am still learning !!

Q5. Share with our readers about your experiment period after the discovery period?

What I do is Creatively Stimulating. I am always on the look out for new ways to enthral my audience. I keep experimenting with new effects, humour and presentations. I am working on new shows and ideas all the time and I love doing that. I don’t think my “experiment period” will ever end !

Q6. What are your future plans? Or now what is your vision for next five years?

I am working towards a modern theatrical magic production and hope to launch it in the next few years and tour the world with it. Also I hope to have a television series on the art. On a more personal front, I would like to do something to uplift traditional Indian street magicians and performers. India has a rich heritage of street performers who no one knows about and hence their tribes are dying out.

Q7. How would you advice/suggest new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in business?

It takes courage to take the first plunge, but once you do that, you will learn to fly. Believing in yourself and your efforts is the key. .

And also my advice to everyone, not just budding entrepreneurs is a quote from Roald Dhal..

“ Always believe in a little magic.. Magic is believing in Yourself and if you can do that you can make anything happen. Don’t wait for that magic moment. Go out and make your own magic. For those who don’t believe in magic... shall never find it..”

Barry Maher - American Speaker, Author on Leadership, Communication, Management & Sales

Q1. How did your career journey start? Or Who/What inspired you to start this business/ entrepreneurship?

I started out to be a novelist. But my novels quickly hit worst-seller status. One even made the UPI’s Ten Most Underrated List for that year, along with a Meryl Streep movie about a dingo that ate a baby.

I was supporting myself with a business career while waiting to achieve best seller status (along of course with wealth, fame and beautiful lovers). Then, about 20 years ago, my agent suggested I write a business book. Which I did. I quickly found myself in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times and literally hundreds of other publications. One day the phone rang and the voice on the other end asked me if I’d speak at their convention. For a one hour keynote, she offered a fee that was over a third of the advance I’d gotten on the book. Did it. Loved it.

Q2. Kindly share some information about your Business, products and services here.

I’m a speaker and a trainer with an expertise in communication, leadership, management and sales. I do everything from keynote presentations to workshops and seminars to extensive trainings. Each session is thoroughly and completely tailored and customized for the individual group, and is as content-rich yet as entertaining and motivational as I can possibly make it.

Q3. What kind of challenges did you face while starting/doing business?

Operating on shoestring (and a broken one at that), I originally had to do everything myself. The thrift that made it possible for me to survive and then thrive in the beginning, quickly became a hindrance when I delayed hiring people who could do any number of specific tasks easier, cheaper and far better than I could.

Q4. Do share with our readers about your discovery period when you were facing difficulties in your business?

Quite simply I was getting overwhelmed. I knew that I couldn’t afford to lower the quality of my presentations or my business would quickly stop growing or even start to retreat. So I was working 7 days a week as many as 16 hours a day. And, as a speaker, I was doing all that traveling as well. Though I’ve always loved what I do, it certainly became much harder to enjoy it during this period. I knew I had to get help but I also knew that I didn’t really have time to train them and still get everything done that needed to be done.

Fortunately, I took the time to find just the right person and my first hire turned out to be one of my very best ever. I won’t say he trained himself but he was so self-directed and so smart, that he came about as close as anyone could to training himself.

Q5. Share with our readers about your experiment period after the discovery period?

As a speaker, I’ve had to work out just what topics my market needed. Then each topic has to be developed then honed over the years to deliver just what our client needs. We never stop perfecting them. Since each session is so thoroughly customized for the particular group, we’re constantly adding new material that may ultimately work for other clients down the line as well.

Beyond that, we’re constantly working to improve our systems as well. So in a sense, my experiment period has never ended and hopefully it never will

Q6. What are your future plans? Or now what is your vision for next five years?

The company has been very successful but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to continue to improve. Adding more client and making sure that each and every presentation delivers exactly what the client needs, and more.

Q7. How would you advice/suggest new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in business?

Having been involved in a number of start-ups as everything from a founder to a consultant, there here are some of the biggest mistakes I've made and seen, and what I learned from them.

1) Overpaying for office space or luxurious appointments that have absolutely no impact on customers. I've watched companies whose customers never see their offices waste hundreds of thousands of precious capital remodeling old warehouses and buying the latest and coolest office furniture, when they should have been developing their business in a garage someplace.

2) Eating your seed corn. This year's profit isn't all profit, much of it should be plowed back into the business. And make sure you have a cash reserve for when times get tough again, which they will sooner or later.

3) Overpay for "expert" leadership. When you decide to bring in help to run the business don't be overly impressed by big name experience and huge salaries listed on their resume. First check them out every way you can to make sure the person is everything they claim to be (and, if so, why did their last employer let such a wonder escape). And even if they are, will that expertise translate to your business: a successful executive at Boeing at may crash and burn disastrously working in a start-up without the kind of resource that were used to previously.

Preeti Subberwal - Transformational Coach, Founding Director at Thoughtful Engagement

Q1. How did your career journey start? Or Who/What inspired you to start this business/entrepreneurship?

As long as I can remember, I was inclined towards anything that could make a difference in the quality of our life. However, I had never considered taking up coaching or training as a profession. A series of triggers started happening since the year 2010 to make me realize the purpose of my life. I got various messages from the universe in many forms and it made me reflect deeply on my profession at that time (I was a Senior Manager in a Telecom Software company).

I strongly believe in the holistic approach to well-being and leadership that promotes mind, body and spirit unification. My quest in this lifetime is how I can accelerate my evolutionary growth and work towards self-mastery in all the four dimensions (physical, mental, emotional and spiritual) in a way that I inspire and support others to do so. With this vision, I quit my job and founded my company – ‘Thoughtful Engagement’ - to provide a platform to people who are willing to thoughtfully engage with people at large to make a positive difference in their life.

Though I took a lot of detours between realizing my inner calling and pursuing coaching as a career, ultimately, it has brought me the personal and professional fulfilment that is beyond words can express.

Q2. Kindly share some information about your Business, products and services here.

Thoughtful Engagement facilitates transformational leadership in individuals and organizations through powerful workshops, seminars and coaching programs in the following areas:

• Personal Development and Empowerment

• Sales, Persuasion and Influence

• Leadership and Managerial Excellence

• Collaboration and Interpersonal Effectiveness

• Stress Management and Work-life Balance

• Holistic Pregnancy and Well-being

Our mission is to illuminate the lives of people in a way that they are empowered to attain their next level of success, happiness and fulfilment in their lives.

Q3. What kind of challenges did you face while starting/doing business?

I was preparing myself for a few years before I finally set up my own venture. I got some experience in coaching and training, did some international certifications and planned the finances accordingly. No matter how much you prepare yourself, entrepreneurship is much tougher than you can imagine. There are times when you feel so overwhelmed and under-prepared that you tend to forget why you even embarked on this journey in the first place.

For creating a profitable and sustainable business, I realized that many things need to be taken care of like - getting my company registered, raising the capital for my startup, forming my team and finding my alliance partners, lead generation, converting leads into business, marketing my services, working on my online presence, understanding the competition, wring and publishing my book and then there are always some unforeseen business challenges and expenses also.

The list is endless and it takes a lot of time and efforts to understand the workings of a new industry and to have your first few customers in place.

Q4. Do share with our readers about your discovery period when you were facing difficulties in your business?

Your determination is tested at every step and it becomes difficult to stay focused when you face one challenge after the other. However, if you are in touch with your source of inspiration, it gives you the inner strength to persevere. I realized that I need to understand the pain points of my prospects and customers and focus on how I can create enormous value for them. And instead of seeking support outside, I had to be in the trenches myself to determine what steps I need to take to hit profitability.

I took up every opportunity with zeal that came on my way whether it was a book reading session, speaking, or a small workshop opportunity. Instead of getting bogged down by disappointments in the early months, I kept renewing my determination with even a greater force and focussed on the learnings.

Q5. Share with our readers about your experiment period after the discovery period?

I was able to launch two world class websites, trademarked my own coaching model, collaborated with a few people with vast experience in this industry and successfully launched the first designer self-help book of India – ‘Life Mantras by a Life Coach’.

I started conducting various types of workshops in corporates with a ‘Holistic Leadership’ theme. I got overwhelming feedback from my clients and the participants of my corporate workshops and the word of mouth started generating more work. I didn’t restrict myself to corporates and got the training opportunities in government and public sector organizations. I also tied up with some wellness centres and hospitals for coaching their patients on psychological and spiritual aspects.

I became one of the pioneers in India as a Holistic Pregnancy coach, and this is something very close to my heart. I feel, the kind of transformation, I want to bring in the society, has to be started from the womb itself.

Q6. What are your future plans? Or now what is your vision for next five years?

I plan to expand overseas as a coach and intend to collaborate with some great international leaders in this industry. As a Holistic Leadership Coach, I will continue to support organizations in accelerating their leadership development and elevating their performance and productivity.

And as a Holistic pregnancy coach, I will tie up with various hospitals and clinics. I will continue to support women in making them realize and embrace their missions as expecting mothers so that they take complete responsibility of the souls entrusted to their care.

I am passionately committed to write many self-mastery books in the times to come. I will also be launching my DVDs and mobile apps to create immense value for the people across the world.

Q7. How would you advice/suggest new entrepreneurs who want to start & sustain in business?

My advice to the new entrepreneurs would be to be true to your vision, values and beliefs no matter how many hardships that you face. Keep upgrading your mindset, skillset and toolset so that you are able to constantly improve the quality of your deliverables. Focus more on building your credibility than on your visibility.

And always trust your gut feeling and seek the answers inside instead of believing what other people tell you about what works and what doesn’t work in business.

Kalyani Kamble - Transform to Triumph

Q1. How did your career journey start? Or who/what inspired you to start this business / entrepreneurship?

Contrary to common belief, there was never a single distinct point in my professional career which made me realize that I had to change my stream of operations. With an MBA in Human Resources and a decade of training experience, I was set in my ways.

However, there was always a sense of impending change looming over me at all points in my career as I knew that my knack to observe human behavior, to see untapped potentials within them would someday manifest itself into something huge. This gestation period of something culminating of my habits was my inspiration to alter my career path and do something that made me joyous! Co-fouding Vinspire – an unequaled knowledge sharing platform which gets like minded people and eager learners on the same stage was a by-product of this inspired career alteration.

Q2. Kindly share some information about your business, products and services here.

“It is not what you are underneath, but what you do, that defines you!” This quote has never failed to amaze me and in its wake, it has often made me realize that we are all living dual lives, oblivious to who we are. The products and services catered by Image Impetus tries to bridge this gap between dual lives and thereby, bringing to the fore, who you really are as a person.

So, at Image Impetus we offer our services to individuals as well as corporate and tend to every minute detail of their personality, right from evaluating their body and face shape to their wardrobes to the etiquette and body language to the communication prowess and maximizing their personal style and lifestyle statements. Similarly for our corporate clientele, we arrange various forms of workshops for their employees,
imparting knowledge about their appearance, communication, and etiquette in general. In addition, we also have a one on one counseling session for them to help them cross any bridge too difficult.

Q3. What kind of challenges did you face while starting / doing business?

The word challenge reminds me of this beautiful line by Helen Keller and I quote. “Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.” This quote helped me channelize the inner fears about the foreseeable challenges of business. The one thought that kept me going on this path was that if I wasn't prepared to tackle and win over my own demons, there was no way I could have helped anybody else. And sustaining yourself in this business by being a hypocrite was not an option.

So i had to unlearn all that I had learnt over a period of time, and re-learn so many aspects of the human psyche, dealing with emotions, learning the traits of business and gradually bringing myself to a point where I could be an inspirational example for all those who walked into my office.

Q4. Do share with our readers about your discovery period when you were facing difficulties in your business?

My experience suggests that venturing into the unknown presents challenges on a more personal level than professional. Image management is one of the most untapped streams of business and to make a living in it meant that my personal stance had to be more thorough and crystal so that I could connect with my clientele on a much deeper level. This realization saw me take various forms of training and coaching to fine tune my natural instincts and subsequently, hone it in a way that would help as many individuals as I possibly could.

Q5. Share with our readers about your experiment period after the discovery period?

As I mentioned earlier, there was a lot unlearning that had to be done, in order to re-learn the basics. This experimentation period has been one of the most challenging and fruitful periods of my life as it was firmly supported by my thought process that I could not be an inspiration and of help to anyone unless I was setting the right example for my clientele.

It was in this period that I amassed knowledge and experience from all possible quarters, started implementing them in places and situations I deemed fit and improved my personal self to become successful professionally.

Q6. What are your future plans? Or what is your vision for the next five years?

The whole focus of Image Impetus has been to extend a hand to individuals who are dealing with life’s challenges, seemingly back-footed.

To create an opportunity for these individuals to be toe-to-toe with life is our vision and reaching out to as many individuals as we can is our mission. So I see myself doing this for the next five years and hopefully, do a small part to spread a certain sense of happiness around.

Q7. How would you advice / suggest new entrepreneurs who want to start and sustain in business?

Being an eternal student of a classroom called life, my advice to fellow entrepreneurs, in general and specially to those who wish to get into Image management would be to be more observant of everything that surrounds you. Pick up on little fragments of information, muster the strength to seek, develop your skills, practice what you preach and don’t settle for anything less than perfection.
